Therapy

Thank you for your interest in my clinical practice! Here you can find some information on my approach and what to expect from psychotherapy.

Contacts

Please note that I am not accepting new clients in private practice at this time. I recently accepted the unexpected opportunity to join the clinic MUSIC, where I will be able to offer short-term, free-of-charge therapy to the LGBTQ+ community while simultaneously contributing to research in the field.

However, please feel free to write me (psycho@francescacapozzi.ca) for general inquiries about my practice, to ask for a referral, or help with other relevant resources. I will do my best to reply to you in the shortest time possible.

General information

I offer psychotherapy for individuals, couples, and all sorts of family organizations. My general approach to therapy focuses on emotions and attachment. However, I tailor my practice on a case-by-case basis to meet my clients’ needs at best.

I strive to create a culturally sensitive environment. My language proficiency encompasses English, French, and Italian. For other languages, we may discuss the use of an interpreter.

I enjoy working with diverse communities (LGBTQ+, immigrants, disabled people) and family organizations (traditional, blended, poly).

I am a licensed psychotherapist in Quebec. As a member of the Ordre professionnel des travailleurs sociaux et des thérapeutes conjugaux et familiaux du Québec (OTSTCFQ), I am subjected to the order’s code of ethics, which can be found at these links: ENGLISH, FRANÇAIS. Additional information on conciliation and arbitration can be found at this LINK. Click here to view my practice license.

What is psychotherapy

Psychotherapy is a form of therapy that involves addressing psychological suffering, discomfort, or questioning.

In couple and family therapy (CFT), psychological distress is often related to the relations within the couple or family. Other reasons to choose CFT include the desire to foster mutual support in challenging life moments (e.g., separations, illnesses, losses).

As a relational therapist, I believe that strengthening affective relationships is key to supporting human well-being.

Thus, one of the therapy’s goals is to solidify relationships such that each member has space to express themself. In couples, this approach may not change an existing decision to separate; however, it would promote a respectful separation and discussion of best co-parenting practices if children are involved.

Modality and length of treatment

The first few sessions typically involve an assessment of your needs and an agreement on the therapy contract.

The duration of treatment is hard if not impossible to establish before we start. Factors that influence duration include (but are not limited to): the complexity and extension of your objectives; whether therapy goals are revised or expanded during treatment; your ability to pay for the service or other forms of financial constraints (e.g., insurance coverage).

I usually recommend a minimum of 10-12 sessions and revise timing and progression periodically with my clients.

I hope to meet you soon!
